Use the Customizer to add or remove EndNote components. Before you continue, make sure that all other applications are closed, including Microsoft Word.
Most of these components are installed the first time you run EndNote. However, if you upgrade or install Microsoft Word after installing EndNote, you would need to reinstall EndNote components here. You can also use the Customizer to install additional content files (connection files, import filters, and output styles). Your installation options include:
Cite While You Write (Add on for Microsoft Word)
Select the check box to install support for Cite While You Write in Microsoft Word. Clear the check box to remove support for Cite While You Write. See Overview of the Cite While You Write Process and How to Cite While You Write with Microsoft Word if you would like more information about this feature.
Services for Mac OS X
Select the check box to install support for Macintosh Services. Clear the check box to remove support for Macintosh Services. See Using Macintosh Services for more information about this feature.
Spotlight Indexing
Select the check box to install support for Spotlight indexing. See Library Preferences for information about enabling Spotlight searching.
Additional Connections Files
Connection files are used in order to connect to and search online databases. EndNote initially installs only the most popular connection files, although thousands are available. While you can select the check box next to Connections to select all available connection files, you likely will want to click the triangle so that you can select only connection files from a specific information provider and/or Library Catalogs.
Additional Import Filters
Import filters are used to import references that have been saved from an outside source to a text file. EndNote initially installs only the most popular import filters, although hundreds are available. Select the check box next to Import Filters to select all available import filters, or click the triangle so that you can select import filters that work with files from specific information providers.
Additional Bibliographic Output Styles
Output styles are used to format citations and bibliographies. EndNote initially installs only the most popular output styles, although more than 4,500output styles are available. Select the check box next to Output Styles to select all available styles, or click the triangle so that you can select groups of output styles by discipline.
Note: Installing all content files (connection files, import filters, and output styles), can significantly slow down some processes in EndNote. EndNote will run faster if you install only the files you intend to use. If you would like to install only specific files from our Web site, see Installing Additional Connection Files, Installing Additional Filters, and Installing Additional Output Styles.
Click Next to proceed with installing/uninstalling specific components.
Click Uninstall to remove all of the above components from your computer, including:
- Cite While You Write
- Microsoft Word Templates
- Connections
- Import Filters
- Output Styles
If you want to remove the entire EndNote program, first Uninstall the above components, then exit the Customizer and drag the EndNote X9 folder (typically found in the Applications folder) to the trash.
Locating an Alternate Cite While You Write Installation
If you selected Cite While You Write for installation, but EndNote cannot determine where Microsoft Word is located, you need to help EndNote locate it. Click the plus sign and use the file dialog to locate and select Word.
